Guard Found Strangled at Washington State Prison

A female prison guard was strangled by an inmate at the Monroe Correctional Complex Saturday, January 29th. The Monroe Correctional Complex is Washington State's largest prison. It has about 2,500 inmates and 5 units of varying security levels. Jayme Biendl, 34, was found dead Saturday night in the chapel at the prison. She had been strangled with a microphone cord. Before she was murdered she had been raising concerns about being the only guard on duty in the chapel. An inmate by the name of Byron Scherf, age 52, is the primary suspect in the murder. Scherf was reported missing when a routine inmate count was done at about 9:15 pm and when Jayme Biendl didn't clock out at 10pm, when she was supposed to, staff members immediately went to the chapel and found her unresponsive on the floor. Scherf is serving a life sentence without parole after being convicted of first-degree rape and kidnapping in 1997.

Ok, I can only sum up this story to a certain extent. I think that everyone who takes an interest in this article should click on the link and read the entire thing. There is a lot more to this story in the article. Anyway, I chose this article because I believe that this is a prime example that some things should be taken care of before it's to late. I understand that the "suspect" in question has been on good behavior for a long stretch and that he has a right to be rewarded for such good behavior, since he is going to be in there for life. I believe in throwing a dog a bone if he's been good enough to deserve it. I also believe in safety when it comes to being around murderers. Byron Scherf is an insane criminal. An article I found stated that Byron Scherf said that "he stakes out his intended victims, follows them and studies their habits."  That guard had been pushing to up the security in the chapel where she was the only guard on duty. It says at the bottom of the original article that it's a shame that the guard had to die before they decided to do something about the security situatuion in that area of the prison. I think that is exactly right. I mean, what were they thinking? That prison is Washington state's largest prison. They have inmates in there who require maximum security and they only put one guard on duty in the chapel?! That situation should not have been an issue. Why would they only have one guard on duty in the chapel area in a maximum security prison? Do they think that those murderers and criminals that are in there aren't going to do something like that because they are in a chapel under God's watchful eye? Those criminals don't give a crap about where they are when they do stuff like that!  The guy that strangled that lady was moved to a medium level of security from a high level of security because he had been showing good behavior. Let me just say that just because he was on good behavior doesn't forgive the reason why he is serving a life sentence. He was probably being good because a lot of time when an inmate shows good behavior, they get thrown a bone sometimes. Maybe they offered that guy something special if he were to show that he was on good behavior. I'm sure they took that deal away now since he murdered a guard. I'm sure they moved him back to a high level of security to. I also believe that they have probably upped the security in the chapel now. But at what cost? That lady had to die just for all those safety issues to be solved? I think that people need to realize and take it seriously that those inmates are in there for a reason and that reason wasn't for something minor. People need to take situations like these very seriously and should always use the highest level of safety so that things like this woman's death doesn't happen again.

9/11 Conspiracy Film Producer Arrested on Drug Charges

In this article, a man that was a producer for one of the conspiracy films for the 9/11 tradgedy has been arrested on drug charges. 27 year old Korey Rowe and a 19 year old man from the Bronx were arrested after they sold heroin to an undercover police officer. Rowe was awaiting criminal felony charges for the distrubution of a controlled substance. Rowe posted a $10,000 bond a nd was released. Rowe is an army veteran of the war against terrorists in Iraq and Afghanistan. Korey Rowe is one of the producers of the conspiracy film called, "Loose Change".

I wanted to blog about this article, because last semester, for 9/11, I wrote a blog about the "Loose Change" conspiracy film. I understand that people are entitled to thier own opinion and that there are people out there that do believe that the 9/11 tradgedy was a conspiracy. If you have seen the "Loose Change" film then you might already have your own opinion about it. The film is very convincing. If I could believe that the government could plan all that out under everyone's noses then I myself would probably be a follower. The guys that made that conspiracy video have convinced a lot of people that the 9/11 tradgedy is a conspiracy. I have no problem with everybody having their own opinion. If the 9/11 tradgedy was a conspiracy I don't think that the government would ever let it leak out that it was. I really don't believe that it was a conspiracy though, because I just don't believe that the government would plan all that out and murder all those innocent people. That is a lot of planning to make that tradgedy a conspiracy. If you haven't seen the "Loose Change" film, I think that you should watch it. I just think that people should see the film because they need to know what people mean when they say that the 9/11 tradgedy was a conspiracy. "Loose Change" is one of the biggest conspiracy films ever made. It is the most viewed conspiracy video out there. Anyway, I think that if you haven't seen the film, you need to watch it and decide for yourself. I thought it sounded pretty crazy to say that the 9/11 tradgedy was planned by our government. I really think that this article just kind of shows people that the people who are responsible for making the biggest conspiracy video are all screwed up on heroin. I have a friend that had to go to rehab for a LONG time, because she was a heroin addict. She would say crazy things and see things that weren't there. She really made it seem that she was insane, but she really isn't. She just wasn't in her right state of mind when she was on the heroin. She always thought that people were coming to get her. She is not a dirty person. In fact, she comes from a very wealthy family. Her family is what saved her. Her mom, dad, and sister got her the help she needed and now she has been clean for almost 6 years. She has come a long way. People that don't know her would never have believed that she was a heroin addict. She just needed some help getting out of a bad situation. She speaks to people about heroin and it's affects on a person's life now to people who need that information to help others with that same problem. Anyway, I think that if the guy that made this big conspiracy film is a heroin addict then maybe that might be the reason as to why he thought the government had planned all this out to get us. I don't think that our government would take the time to plan out a mass murder like that. I think that Rowe is just a big doper and that he didn't have a clear mind when he made that film. Just a thought! Like I said before, everyone has their own opinion. I encourage you to watch the conspiracy film and decide for yourself!

Week 1: Medical marijuana users getting pot soft drink

An entrepreneur plans to market a line of medical marijuana soft drinks. Clay Butler plans to fill dispensers with the medical marijuana he calls "soda pots". The drinks will contain the psychoactive marijuana ingredient THC. Marijuana drinks are already popping up all over the place but Butler believes that by slapping his brand on the drinks will make him a good profit. The drinks will be sold for $10-$15 per 12 oz. bottle.  Butler says that he does not do drugs or need medical marijuana for any aliments.

I had to write about this one because I thought it was really funny. Times are changing and I know that a lot of people in the U.S. use marijuana, whether it be for medical reasons or for personal reasons. I actually have a friend that lives in California, where medical marijuana is legal. They are really coming up with some crazy things for marijuana usages now a days. I've heard of pot brownies, but my friend in California says they have all kinds of crazy things over there. They actually have machines where all you have to do is scan ur medical marijuana card, put in some money, pick which "flavor" you want, and out pops a "doobie" (looks like a rolled up cigarette). Is that not crazy?! She also says that there are shops over there that sell pot candy, pot cookies, pot tea, and other various "pot" items. Now they have come up with this plan to make soda pop with pot in it. I just think its kinda funny! Maybe one day there will be a place like Sonic called a pot drive-in! The things people come up with these days never cease to amaze me! Oh the possibilities! Ha! HA! HA! My friend in California told me it's actually quite easy to get one of those medical marijuana cards in her state. She says she even has one. I told her she's crazy and that she better not be driving on that stuff. I'm not knockin' it but I do think that people need to be careful with it. There is a reason why it's been illegal for so long.

Week 1: Suspect Faces Judge in Arizona Shooting Massacre

A man by the name of Jared Lee Loughner had an arraignment in court this afternoon. Loughner, age 22, is charged with the attempted assassination of Arizona State Representative Gabrielle Giffords and the attempted murder of two of her aides. He is accused of opening fire on a Giffords political event in a local supermarket that wounded 13 people and killed six others, including a federal judge and a 9-year-old girl who was born on Sept. 11, 2001. He will face state charges dealing with the other victoms.  Loughner may use an insanity defense, and prosecutors could push for the death penalty.

I just wrote a little update on this story above. There is so much more to this article and you can read it if you click on the high-lighted link above. I know probably everybody has either heard about this story or seen it on the news, but I wanted to post my opinion on it because I find this to be a very disturbing thing. First of all I want everybody to click on the link above and take a good look at the picture there. It is a picture of Jared Loughner, up close and personal. That face gives me the chills everytime I see it. There is something very wrong with that guy. I could never ever just walk into a supermarket and shoot a political figure straight in the face, let alone a little 9 year old girl and other various age ranged victoms. I know that most likely he will claim insanity, but I pray to God that they still give him the death penalty. When I stare into his eyes in the picture in the article I just know that he knew exactly what he was gonna get up and do that day and he does not feel one bit of remorse about it. I just don't understand how somebody can be that way about that sort of thing. We may never know why he is this way and yes he probably is literally insane but I still think he deserves the death penalty. I feel very sorry for his parents, because I really believe that they were unaware of his motives but in the same since, I think that they should have had him in some sort of therapy. He needs a lot more than that now though! My heart goes out to the victoms and their families. I pray every day for Gabrielle Giffords and I hope she comes out of this 100% better.

My Introduction

Hello new classmates! My name is Holly Carsel. I am 23 years old and this is my second semester as a freshmen at MSSU. I am majoring in Accounting. I'm not entirely sure about what I want to do with my degree. Auditing sounds great and it comes with a wonderful salary. Not everybody with an Accounting degree works in a bank! Anyway, I am a very busy lady these days. I have a 6 month old daughter, a husband named Brian, I do all of my classes online for MSSU, I am a full time student, I have a part-time job at Dairy Queen here in Lamar, MO, where I have lived all my life, and I have a household to run! Well, my husband helps me to, but he also has a full time job doing construction. I can't wait to get started with my blogs and to read all of yours! Good luck with your spring semester!
