Teenage Moms
I used to love watching MTV back when they showed music videos all say long. After they started putting shows on there I stopped watching for a while. Now a days, I actually have a few favorite shows that I like to watch on MTV. I know some of you don't like it, but I love to watch "The Jersey Shore". I just find that show to be really funny and entertaining. Anyway, there is another show that I like to watch and that is "Teen Mom 2". Its interesting to watch and see what those teenage mothers are going through, but most of all I think that this show really brings out the harsh reality of having a baby when you are a teenager. I'm not saying in any way that these girls are terrible people for getting pregnant that young. I just like how the tv series shows teenage girls that having to take care of a kid is a lot of work and stress on a person when they are still in high school and haven't even got to expierence the joys of life yet. I guantee you that all those girls on that show wish that they were out having fun, doing what all the other people their age are doing right now. I'm not saying that they don't love their children and that they regret their children, but I do think that they wish they would have waited to have their children. The pressure of being a teenager these days is a very tough burden to carry and skipping that part of their life that they are supposed to enjoy can lead to unhealthy behavior. Only one of the girls on the Teen Mom 2 show is getting married and is actually doing alright for herself, but she does have to deal with a child that seems to have a medical problem. Thats a hard thing for a teenager to have to go through. I'm so glad that she has a good man that sticks by her and supports her as a husband and a parent, because she already has enough on her plate. There are two other girls that have split up with their boyfriends, and one of those couples are going to court and drawing up a custody agreement over their son, Isaac. The other girl is struggling with school and trying to finish in order to go on to beauty school. The last remaining girl is Jennelle Evans. She has been living from place to place, sleeping on whatever couch she can find, and letting her new boyfriend ruin her life. She was caught on camera brutally beating a girl over an argument about her boyfriend, Kiefer. She has been in trouble for breaking and entering, stealing credit cards and possession of drugs in just her first year of MTV fame. Her mother has custody of her son and has kicked her out for stealing her credit cards and racking up quite a bill. MTV has been recieving nasty comments about the show because of Jennelle Evans's behavior on and off the show. Many people believe that this show is not a good thing for a teenager to be learning from about being a teenage mother. I believe that they are wrong! I think that Jennelle Evans's "mistakes" are a prime example as to just how hard life can be sometimes when you make the wrong decisions. I honestly believe that a lot of teenagers could look at Jennelle, and the rest of these moms on this show, and think, " Do I really want something like that to happen to me?" or "I'm never going to do what that girl did!". I know that sometimes we see things that disappoint us on these shows, but I firmly believe that sometimes people need to be shown just how harsh reality can be sometimes. I call it an eye-opener.

Yea but this way MTV makes more money from people watching it because a lot of people don’t just watch music videos all day but yea I like Teen mom too because I feel that when kids are watching it shows them just how hard it is being a teen parent and having kids I think it would make them thing twice and use protection.
ReplyDeleteI too believe that this show brings light to teenagers that do not fully realize how difficult it is to raise a baby when they are not quite mature themselves. I hear a lot of teenagers talk about how much they love this show. The only thing that is not a true depiction is that the mothers are making money from this show. So in reality they are making money that normal teenagers would not. I hope that a naive teen doesn't get pregnant just to try and get on the show and get the publicity. Other than that, it really does show how difficult it can be and how it can change family relationships as well. That Jannelle is a mess! I really do not know why they even put her on this show. She is such a poor example of a young lady period not to mention a mother. The only onesI feel bad for is her mother and the child. I don't think MTV is about to go backward at all, as these are top rated t.v. shows.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy watching "Teen Mom" as well, and I agree that it is an eye-opener. People think that the show is totally faked, but how can it be when the moms portrayed on the show aren't having fun? Jenelle is crazy! I have read a lot about her in magazines, and I think she needs to get her act together fast. I feel sorry for her child!
ReplyDeleteMy best friend is 20, married and has a little boy who will be a year old this year. The one thing the show doesn't show viewers is the dirty business of being a mom. You never really see them changing diapers, feeding/nursing, staying up all night, potty training (when they are old enough.) I'm not saying personally I would want to see all of that lol but my best friend did say that she wishes they would show every aspect of being a young mom rather than just their relationships with others.
ReplyDeleteI must say I am guilty of watching this show. I was very fond of the first season. I however thought the show was a little ridiculous. Half of these girls were no where ready to be mothers, and I found it very sad when their babies had to suffer for their immature decisions. I don't feel they should have been encouraged either for their behavior by being flaunted on national television. I do think it could be a good way though to let other teenage girls know the difficulites of being a teenage mother, however I do not think that was the intentions of MTV. Hopefully this show has helped young girls to stay abstinent or be safe.
ReplyDeleteI like watching this show also. I think MTV is trying make teenagers realize how much their lives will change if they become teen moms. I also think they should do a better job of showing the realities of being a parent. Parenting is very difficult, and in my opinion the only person they did a good job with was Leah. They actually showed the medical difficulties one of her twins is going through and the emotional stress is causes the parents. If MTV really wants to reach teenagers, they need to show more of the harsh realities of being a parent.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I don't believe this show should be on the air. Some of you say that it shows everyone how hard it is being a teen mom and makes them realize. But, what one person ever said it was easy?! People are getting paid to be a teen mom? More than half those girls don't deserve anything recognition. Just like Janelle, she shouldn't even be on the show. the way she talks to her mother should never be on television! That video makes me sick. I think a video like that needs to held confidential. What kind of idea are you putting into peoples heads, showing teen moms' drama filled lifes on air? I just don't get it.
ReplyDeleteInteresting topic.
Holly, I can understand your interest in the show as I have a sister who watches quite often as well. I think it can be beneficial in some ways because it sheds some light as to the consequences of being a teenage mom. Recently on the news they were showing a fight between two teen moms from this show. I think now there are charges that someone is facing, but I am not sure who.

I also watch this show. I started with the first Teen Mom and have ended up watching this one as well. I personally really like these shows. I have to say Alexis did bring up a good point about them "getting paid to be teen moms". I never really looked at it like that. I am sure they do make a pretty penny to do this reality show. I still love the show and I do think it helps to show young girls that babies are a lot more work than what one would think. It is not always fun and games. Not to mention the financial aspect of a child.
ReplyDeleteOh boy, I am not really sure about how I feel when it comes to shows like these. I was a teen parent, granted I was out of highschool, but stil young and it was tough. I just feel that in a way MTV is making it look cool to be a teen parent.
