A Wild Hair

I had been thinking about doing something different to my hair for a while. I have always put about one or two colors into my hair everytime I get it done. Usually, I keep it normal looking and go for some brown and blonde highlights. I've put a carmel color highlight into my hair a few times before, but that is about as crazy as it gets for me. I decided that it was time for a change. I wanted something very different from what I normally get. I didn't want to dye it blue or anything like that, but I did want to change it dramatically. I went online and went straaight to Google. I looked up different hair coloring jobs for my length of hair and found a few that I liked. I saved those and went on with my search for the perfect look. I finally found a really good picture of what I wanted. I have a friend that does my hair, her name is Michelle. Michelle works part time with me at Dairy Queen and the other part time at her little hair booth at one of our local tanning and fitness places. Anyway, I told Michelle about a month ago that I wanted my hair colored again and that I wanted it to look a little different this time. I showed her the picture that I had saved and she said she could do it, but she would have to order the colors first and then she would let me know when she could do my hair. The next week I asked Michelle if she had gotten my colors yet and she said, "Oops! I forgot to order them! I will order them today and they should be here by next week." I told her that was fine. The next week, it snowed! We got almost 2 feet of snow that week! Nobody went over and plowed the parking lot were Michelle does hair so she didn't go in to work that week. My husband and I were tired of being stuck in the house 'cause of the snow. They had cleared the roads off pretty good so we decided to go out that Saturday, due to cabin fever. While my husband and I were making plans on where we were going to go that night I realized that I was in dire need of a hair cut and so was Brian. I tried calling Michelle to see if she could cut my hair, but she never answered me. I then called around to a few other places so I could get my hair cut and not look like crap when we went out that night. Nobody was open that day except for Royal Reflections, which is the worst place in the world to go to, and they were all booked up for the day. I decided to take Brian to Mayberry's Barber shop, up on the square, to get his hair cut. When we got there, Bryce started giving Brian his usual hair cut and I asked old man Mayberry, who is the oldest barber there and the owner of the shop, if he could cut my hair and give me a lot more layers without shortening it to much. I told him just to cut off the bad ends. He said, "Yea, I can do that. I know how to cut a woman's hair. I cut women's hair all the time." So I decided to let him cut my hair. Old man Mayberry has been cutting hair since before I was a baby, so I figured he couldn't screw it up to bad. After he was done cutting my hair, I stood up and looked in the mirror and I was amazed at the job he did! It looked awesome! It looked WAY better than what Michelle usually does to it and I had a bunch more layers! I think I might continue to let the old man cut my hair from now on! I asked if he did colors and he said, "No, only cuts." That is fine with me though because I knew the color job that I had picked out was going to be hard to do. Brian and I went out that night and I got a TON of compliments on my hair cut. When I told my friends who cut my hair, they were shocked at what a good job old man Mayberry did. Who knows, maybe they will start going to Mayberry's for their hair cuts! The next week it snowed some more, thankfully not very much but we got about a half a foot. Michelle had to stay home with her kids that week, because they didn't have to go to school, because they let all the kids have a few more snow days. I tried calling Michelle and she never answered me back until the end of the week, but by then I had already called somebody else to do my hair, because I had pictures scheduled for this Saturday and I had to get my color done before the pictures. Michelle already knew all of this and still didn't even bother to get a hold of me until late last week when I had been calling her and texting her for about 2 weeks now! Anyway, I called and scheduled an appointment with somebody else, because I knew that if I waited to long and if Michelle never called me back then I would be screwed on finding somebody that could do my color on such a short notice. I called this well-known salon stylist at the Backstreet Salon, her name is Charity and she used to do my hair as a kid, Charity is known for her wonderful coloring jobs. She said she was all booked up, but her friend Angel could do my colors on Saturday morning, a week before my pictures. I know who Angel is and she does great colors too so I agreed to let Angel do my hair. On Saturday morning, I went into the salon and showed Angel my picture that I wanted my hair to look like and she helped me pick out the right colors to go into my hair. After we finally got my think head of hair foiled and she put me under the dryer, I was starting to get anxious. She pulled me out from under the dryer and started pulling the foil out of my hair, I was a little speechless because it looked weird being wet. After Angel rinsed the chemicals out and dryed my hair and straightened it, which really wasn't needed because my hair is straight as a string and I don't even own a straightener because I don't need one, it looked beautiful! She put a lot more red in it that what I wanted, but I loved it! I was shocked at first because I had never done anything this dramatic to my hair before, but after I got past the shock I really loved it. Angel was worried, because of the shocked expression on my face, but I assured her that I loved it. She said if I decided that I wasn't satisfied with it then I could call her and she would put more blonde in it or fix it however I wanted. I don't think I want her to fix it though, because all my friends think it looks awesome. My husband thinks it's hot! Michelle finally got a hold of me that night and said that she could do my hair on Saturday next week, which is the morning that I have to get pictures taken. I text her back and explained to her that I already got my hair done because I couldn't get an answer from her and that my pictures were on that Saturday. She never replied back after that so I hope that I didn't make her mad. I really like Michelle, she is a good friend and I hope that I didn't make her angry with me because I didn't let her do my hair, since I asked her to do it originally. If she already ordered my colors then maybe she can save them and do my hair the next time I need it done. Anyway, here is a picture of what my hair looks like now.

  1. Your hair does look fun and edgy. Glad you were able to get it done in time for your pictures. Making a big change like that is always scary let alone when you know you have to have photos taken. So happy it worked out for you. As for your friend Michelle...if she is a true friend she should certainly understand, as you did make every effort to reach her. It was kind of rude in my opinion that she was aware of your schedule and didn't make any effort to even contact you or reply to your text messages. So I hope she is a true friend and actually appoligizes to you!
